Robert Daniel “Bob” Young, 65, of West Mansfield, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long illness with Alzheimer’s Disease and other health complications.
He was born in Akron on Feb. 28, 1947, and was predeceased by his father, Ralph Young.
On Nov. 21, 1965, he married the former Carol Epling in New Milford and she survives, along with five children, Rick Young of Hilliard, Rob Young of Richwood, Randy Young of Marysville, Connie (Dan) Achor of West Mansfield and Rex Young of York Center; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Isaiah, Natalie, Amanda, Lexi, Nate, Lindsay, Livi and Levi; his mother, Delores Fincannon Young of Wadsworth; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Rita) Young of Diamond; a brother-in-law, Ken (Beth) Epling of Stockport; a sister-in-law, Linda (Bruce) Eskridge of Rootstown; an aunt, Nell Reed of Medina; nieces and nephews, Matt, Megan, Crystal, Ben and Alison; and many other relatives.
Known by his close friends and co-workers as “Bruno,” he retired in 2003 after 38 years as an associate of Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Akron and Marysville.
He was a 1965 graduate of Rootstown High School, where he participated in athletics, including football and wrestling, and enjoyed semi-professional boxing. He was a Chicago Bears fan.
A loving and devoted husband, he was a devoted, fun-loving and ornery father and cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
An outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his pond and feeding his fish.
The Rev. John M. Groat officiates a funeral at noon Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and two hours prior to the funeral. Burial is in York Township Cemetery.
