Joyce Rae Purdy


Joyce Rae Purdy, 77, of Huntsville, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 13, 2012, at Green Hills Care Center, West Liberty.

She was born in Cincinnati on July 31, 1935, to J. Lucille Gardner Kyle, who survives in Williamsburg, and the late Walter Kyle.

On July 17, 1954, she married Ronald Louis Purdy in Cincinnati and he preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry R. Burton.

She is survived by four children, Deborah (Mike) Young of Lakeview, Ronald L. Purdy Jr. of Lima, Kathleen E. Hines of Redkey, Ind., and Becky (Tim) Wallace of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren, James M. Young, Ronald D. Young, Daniel C. Young, Amy M. Bechtel, Bryan W. Burton, Kyle A. Burton, Anderson W. Burton, Gary L. Hines, Afton M. Hines, Donald C. McCowan III, Crocker T. Wallace and Cassie C. Wallace; 14 great-grandchildren, Brady Bechtel, Madison Bechtel, Airianna Young, Reid Young, Wesley Young, Sophia Young, Bryce Burton, Audry Burton, Ashten Hines, Jacob Hines, Ayla Hines, Vasin Ridgway, Varen Hines and Cameo Trent; a sister, Kaaren Ward of Williamsburg; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Mary Carol) Purdy of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Cincinnati Withrow High School, she earned her LPN license from Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. She and her husband owned and operated Major Marine in Russells Point for 20 years.

She loved art and created pieces of ceramics, stained glass and cut glass works. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed outdoor sports including snowmobiling, boating, skiing and camping.

She was a very generous person, always giving to numerous charitable organizations. She was a very loving woman, who enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her family.

Private funeral services are at a later date, with burial in Huntsville Cemetery.
