Steven L. Skidmore, 63, of Bellefontaine passed away in his home surrounded by his family Friday evening, Oct. 12, 2012.
He was born in Bellefontaine on Dec. 29, 1948, a son of Amy K. Neer Skidmore, who survives in West Liberty, and the late DeWeese L. Skidmore.
On June 7, 1975, he married Dottie L. McDonal in Bellefontaine and she survives, along with two children, Cory (Barbara) Skidmore of Marysville and Aryelle (Charles) Howe of Grelton; grandchildren, Sophia and Flynn Skidmore and Chloe and Carter Howe; and a brother, Timothy D. (Kathleen) Skidmore of Bellefontaine.
A 1967 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, he graduated from the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va., and worked for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, and most recently at Logan County Family Courts.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church and former Scoutmaster of Troop 182. He also was a past president of Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club, past president and life member of Logan County Fish and Game, and was an active member of the Logan County Historical Society.
He enjoyed being in the woods, deer and turkey hunting, and French and Indian War re-enactment.
Those who knew him understood he never met a stranger. It was not important for him to get the last laugh; however, he always got a laugh.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, officiated by Pastors Ed Beale and Jeff Willetts; burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James Cancer Center for CLL Research and to the Boy Scouts of America Tecumseh Council.
