Merlyn Keith Zell, 80, of Bellefontaine, and formerly of Zanesfield, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born in Glen Flora, Wis., on Nov. 8, 1931, to the late LaVerne Fred and Lillian May Butterfield Zell. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Gordon, Glendale, Kerryn, Elden and Lynn Zell.
On Dec. 20, 1974, he married the former Patricia Hylton in Huntsville and she survives, along with two sons, John (Annette) Zell of Lima and William (Beth) Zell of Huntsville; six daughters, Pamela (George) Sehringer of Bay Village, Elizabeth (Eli) Carter of Bellefontaine, Rebecca (David) Fullmer of Urbana, Jennifer (David) McCann and Megan Zell, both of Columbus, and Lillian (Shawn) Keller of West Jefferson; a sister, Goldene Tennant of Florida; 14 grandchildren, Keller and Ali Sehringer, Mara, Lauren, Andrew, Brant and Grace Zell, Elisha and Ethan Carter, Mia and Bella Fullmer, Jack and Zach McCann and Dominic Keller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Retired after working in construction trade for many years, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Zanesfield Community Chapel and served on the Ohio Hi-Point JVS Advisory Board Grounds and Facilities committee.
He was instrumental in organizing Our Daily Bread in Bellefontaine and Caring Kitchen in Urbana. He also served as president of the Logan County chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International and was passionate about sharing God’s love with everyone he could.
Pastor Keith Matthews officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Our King Church, Bellefontaine. Visitation is from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine. Burial is in the Zanesfield Cemetery with military honors by the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
