Meriam “Cindy” Keenan, 88, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.
She was born in Bellefontaine on Aug. 9, 1925, to the late Charles and Venus Watkins.
She graduated from Bellefontaine High in 1943 and moved to San Diego County in 1956, where she lived until passing.
She is survived by her son, Teri (Ellen) Keenan of San Marcos; daughter, Kellie (John) Keenan-Tocco of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ron and Charlie Watkins; and her Scottie, Colby Girl.
Cindy was proud that both children graduated from San Diego State. She graduated from dental school in 1965. She was Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters for Bethels 315 La Jolla and 152 San Diego.
Cindy was a member of Eastern Star for more than 65 years. Her ancestors include Patrick Henry (“Give me liberty or give me death”) and Aaron S. Watkins, U.S. presidential candidate in1920.
After visiting Africa, Cindy was inspired by her love of animals and became a Benefactor’s Circle member of the San Diego Zoological Society.
Her philosophy for life was “Be respectful of others, tell the truth, and love yourself.”
