F. Garry Layman, 71, of Lakeview, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.
Garry was born on September 10, 1942, in Sidney to the late Francis & Mary Shively Layman. From the age of 6, he was raised by the late Raymond & Sadie Harning in Sidney. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Layman.
On February 22, 2001, he married his best friend, the former Susie Yoder in Lakeview, and she survives. He is also survived by three children, Kim Schlup of Russells Point, Brent (Mary) Layman of Greensboro, N.C., Josh Layman of Lakeworth, Fla., three step-children, Paul Karnes of Indianapolis, Ind., Scott Hostetler and Matt Hostetler both of West Liberty, seven grandchildren, Racheal Vom Baur, Jennifer Vom Baur, Sara Schlup, Hailey Prater, Emma Layman, Megan Figarro, Sidney Layman, and Grace Layman, two brothers, Richard (Linda) Layman and Jerry (Mary) Layman, both of Sidney, and his “boxers”, Ruger and Abby.
Garry was a former truck driver for Rising Sun Express in Jackson Center and had his own trucking company when he lived in Florida. He also was a photographer and had worked for Variety Attractions in Zanesville. He was an avid Miami Hurricane football fan and closely followed college football, he was also a Tony Stewart NASCAR fan, and loved horses and traveling. Garry was a dreamer and always followed his dreams.
He was a member of Indian Lake FOE Aeries #3615 where he held several offices including secretary for 9 years, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533 and Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post # 39, all in Lakeview.
Per Mr. Layman’s wishes, his body was cremated. A celebration of Garry’s life will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Indian Lake Eagles Aeries #3615, 14011 Collingwood Avenue, Lakeview.
Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Top of Ohio Pet Shelter, 2521 N. U.S. Route 68, Bellefontaine, OH, 43311.
