Miriam E. Gillenwater, 96, of Lakeview, passed away Sunday morning, June 29, 2014, at Heartland of Indian Lake.
She was born July 12, 1917, in Belle Center, to the late Harry and Clara Herron Manahan. She married Moriel Clayton Gillenwater and he preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, Wilbur, and 11 siblings.
Survivors include six children, Judy Gamble of Mesa, Ariz., Nancy (Jerry) Gerber of Columbus, Buddy (Edie) Gillenwater of West Virginia, David Gillenwater of Urbana, Gary Gillenwater of Lakeview and Leanna Pollard of West Union; a sister, Carol Long of Rosewood; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Wilcox of Brooksville, Fla.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was a 1935 graduate of DeGraff High School and a homemaker. She was a member of the Russells Point Church of God. When she was able, she was very active in her church and missionary work, and also was an active member of the Young-At-Heart Senior Center in Lakeview. She enjoyed gardening and reading. She loved being with her family.
The Rev. Ron Irick officiates at 1 p.m. Thursday, funeral services at Shoffstall Funeral Home North Chapel, 115 North Main St., Lakeview, where visitation is two hours prior to services. Burial is in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
