Eleanor “Ellie” Grubbs, 85, passed away June 22, 2014, at Sunrise of Bexley.
She was born in Springfield to Pearl and Harry Armstrong. She was proceeded in death by her husband, William H. Grubbs.
She was raised in Springfield and received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Wittenberg University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
After graduation she was an illustrator at Wright-Patterson Air-Force Base. Upon her marriage she moved to Columbus and was an illustrator for Nationwide Insurance.
She and Bill moved to London and Ellie became very active in the community and with her church.
In 1969, she became the first art teacher at London High where she taught for 25 years. While there she received the Jennings Award.
After retiring she moved to the family farm outside West Liberty and became active in that community.
She then resided in several assisted living facilities.
Ellie is survived by her daughter, Sharon Grubbs of Columbus; her son, Scott (Diane) MacLaren; and two grandchildren, Briana and Nicole MacLaren.
She will live in the memory of her large and loving community of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in London.
