Charles F. Wren, 81, of Sidney, passed away at his residence at 3:01 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, after an extended illness.
He was born in Bloom Center on Dec. 15, 1932, a son of the late Orville and Mary Burkett Wren. He also was preceded in death by one son, Michael, and one great-granddaughter.
He was married to Ann Louise Voress on June 14, 1952, and she survives, along with two daughters, Rebecca (Ron) Partin of Hilliard and Patricia (Craig) Henke of Woodville, Wis.; a son, Steven Wren of Sidney; 13 grandchildren, Mark (Kylie) Wren, Melissa Thomas, Erin Partin, Christopher James (Ashley) Krueger, Corinne Marlow, Alexis Krueger, Donavan Krueger, Kaylee Marlow, Bram Henke, Grayson Henke, Sarah Wren, Zoe Henke and Taylor Wren; four great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and two brothers, Burns (Mary Lou) Wren of St. Marys and Gerald (Bernie) Wren of DeGraff.
A 1950 graduate of Lewistown High School, Mr. Wren was a U.S. Korean Air Force veteran. He had worked for Chiles Tire Service in Sidney and Pennzoil in Quincy as a salesman and drove for Dial-A-Ride in Sidney for 15 years.
He was very active in the Sidney American Legion, where he was past commander and the Americanism chairman for the 2nd district. He was also in the Singing Soldiers. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney.
The Rev. Daniel Hess officiates a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Cremation services will take place following the mass. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home, Sidney, with an American Legion prayer service at 7:45 p.m.
