Phillip Marion Salyer, 69, of Quincy, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 26, 2014, at his home.
He was born in Paynesville, Ky., on Feb. 24, 1945, to the late Curtis and Delma Williams Salyer. He also was preceded in death by a son, William Alvis Salyer; grandson, Donavon Hempker; and great-grandson, Brenon Martin.
On Nov. 11, 1977, he married the former Sharon Robinson in Quincy and she survives, along with children, Mark (Holly) Salyer of Mingo, Tracey (Bob) Salyer-Lowery of Lakeview, Chad (Angie) Salyer, Tonya (Dave) Salyer-Hempker and Billie Jo (Mike Gillenwater) Salyer, all of Bellefontaine, and Phillip M. Salyer Jr. of Quincy; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Harriett (Norman) Thomas of Lakeview, Brenda (Melvin) Lattimer of Springhills, Joy (Phil) Horne of Bellefontaine and Wilma (Jim) Vertress of London; brothers, Bob (Elaine) Salyer of DeGraff, Curtis Salyer of Lakeview and Jack Salyer of Bellefontaine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phillip retired from Airstream in Jackson Center, where he worked as an assembler for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, restoring old cars, gardening and being outside.
He loved his dogs — Cricket, Baby and Tiny.
Pastor Mark Hina officiates a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes St., DeGraff, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial is at a later date.
