Vera Elizabeth Tallman Blackburn, 98, passed away April 16, 2014, at Green Hills Community, West Liberty.
She was born in Hardin County on Jan. 2, 1916, to the late Paul A. and E. Cleo Tallman. She married Frank M. Blackburn on March 29, 1941, and he preceded her in death. Vera also was preceded in death by brothers, Harland, Wendell and Paul Jr.; sister, Donna Ferrell; and grandson, Michael John Blackburn.
Vera is survived by a daughter, Karen (John) Blackburn Roettger of West Liberty; son, Al (Jacki) Blackburn of Southport, N.C.; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Roettger Honeycutt, Nancy (Terry) Roettger Carter, Andrew (Jill) Blackburn and Julie (Derek) Blackburn Dingman; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Bailey Honeycutt, Jackson and Cole Carter, Charleston and Drew Blackburn.
She attended Woodstock School, graduated from Ada High School, and attended Ohio Northern University.
She also attended Forest United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wesleyan Guild of the Church. Vera was a former member of the Pastoral Relations Committee and chairman of the church greeting committee.
Vera was a former member of the Searchlight Club and Forest Jackson Library Board. She was a member of the Hardin County and Ohio Retired Teacher’s Associations.
She loved to teach, sew quilts, sing and play the piano, grow flowers, read and be with her family.
Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiates a funeral at noon Monday at the Clark Shields Funeral Home, Forest, where visitation is two hours prior. Private burial is in York Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Forest-Jackson Public Library or the Green Hills Community.
