Mary E. Goodwin, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, at Logan Acres, with her family by her side.
She was born in Dayton on Nov. 18, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Rakos Barney. She also was preceded in death by a son, Larry Lee Goodwin; and a brother, Joseph Barney.
On July 17, 1942, she married Thurman H. “Jim” Goodwin in Montgomery County and he preceded her in death Feb. 25, 2009.
She and her husband owned and operated the IGA grocery stores in Belle Center and Rushsylvania for 40 years.
Survivors include a son, James (Claudia) Goodwin of Daleville, Va.; daughter-in-law, Deborah Goodwin of Dublin; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Stella E. Williams of Hudson, Fla.; and a special nephew, Joe Barney of Rushsylvania.
She was a member of Rushsylvania Church of Christ and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling around the world, keeping a daily journal and scrapbooking.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to a funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, officiated by Pastor John James. Burial is in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
