Ernestine Simpson, 71, of DeGraff, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, in the Dayton VA Medical Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1942, in Westville, a daughter of the late Ernest and Maude Johnson Watkins.
She was a 1960 graduate of Graham High School, enjoyed fishing, crocheting, reading puzzles, games and especially spending time with her family, always getting in the last word.
Survivors include her children, Kent Watkins and fiancée, Amy of Sidney, Deanna McKnight and Vincent “J.J.” Simpson Jr. and his wife, Christy, all of DeGraff, Pam Mandell and her husband, Joe of San Antonio, Texas, and Vonda Simpson and her life partner, Tiffany of Bellefontaine; stepdaughter, Jackie Burdiss of Sidney, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters; Pearl Thackery of Maine, Mary Ann Couch of Columbus Grove, Martha Reed and her husband, Dick of Kentucky and Ethel Powell and her husband, Jim of Urbana; brothers, Ernie Watkins and his wife, Maureen of West Liberty, and David Watkins of Sidney.
She also was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Vincent J. “Jack” Simpson Sr. on Feb. 7, 2014; a son Kevin, an infant son; and brothers, Frankie and Jonathan.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Thursday in Walter & Smith Funeral Home in Urbana, where calling begins at noon. Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiates and burial is in Nettle Creek Cemetery.
