Gladys M. Early Hesson, 77, of Marysville, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Emeritus at Halcyon Village in Marysville.
She was born in Bellefontaine on Feb. 2, 1937, to the late Paul and Mary Vore Early. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert Paul Hesson, in 2011 and by her daughter, Sheila Ann Hesson, in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Rodney P. Hesson of Marysville; a brother, Harold (Sue Ann) Early of Bellefontaine; four sisters, Martha (Phil) Myers of Holland, Rose Marie (Bill) Slemmons of Wyoming, Ohio, Frances Core of Bluffton and Ruth Ann Early of Bluffton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She graduated in 1958 from White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus with a registered nursing degree. She worked at Memorial Hospital of Union County for her entire career, most of her years in obstetrics.
After retiring in 1990, she assisted as a physician’s nurse for Dr. Rodney Hurl, M.D. She will be remembered as a compassionate nurse who was keenly invested in her patients’ care.
She was a member of Stony Creek Church of the Brethren, Bellefontaine, King’s Daughters and Sons and P.E.R.I. She was a dog lover, especially corgis, and cared for five family canines through the years.
Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where a funeral begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment is at Oakdale Cemetery beside her husband and daughter.
