Jon David Weeks, 54, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at the Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis Hospital, Indianapolis, after a year-long battle with complications following a pancreas transplant March 11, 2013.
He was born in Bellefontaine on Nov. 17, 1959, to Richard “Dick” and Jane Howard Weeks, who survive in Bellefontaine.
On Feb. 28, 1995, he married the former Sharman Kathleen Helzer, who also survives, along with their two sons, Erik Jon and Nicholas David Weeks, both at home; two brothers, Rick (Joanie) Weeks of Clarksville, Tenn., and Doug (Cindi) Weeks of Dublin; his mother-in-law, Tamara (Galen) Overholt of Bellefontaine and father-in-law, Lee (Phyllis) Helzer of Zanesville; sisters-in-law, Penny Brugler of Bellefontaine, Amber (Jaryd) McGuire of Van Wert; a brother-in-law, Shannon (Vanessa) Helzer of Kutztown, Pa.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jon loved his family and was a dedicated worker, employed at Belletech Corporation for nearly 28 years as senior coordinator of production.
He especially loved watching his boys play sports and supporting them in all of their activities, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
Jon always thought of others before himself, and as a final testimony of that, he donated his organs and tissues to research so that one day there may be a cure. His tissue and organ donations went to the IUPUI Transplant and Research Facility, where Jon’s doctors described him as an “enigma.” His donations will be medically researched to help find a cure for future patients who develop graft-versus-host disease after solid organ transplants.
Gene Marine officiates a memorial service at 5 p.m. Saturday in Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, with visitation three hours prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jon Weeks Memorial Fund, c/o Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, 110 N. Main St., Bellefontaine OH 43311.
