Richard D. “Dick” Cooper Jr., 85, of Raymond, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at the OSU Ross Heart Hospital, Columbus, following an extended illness.
He was born in Columbus on Aug. 6, 1928, to the late Richard and Miriam Laird Cooper. He married Mary Ellen Boyles on July 30, 1950, and she preceded him in death June 24, 1995.
Survivors include his second wife of 10 years, Donna Ebner Cooper and her family; three sons, Bruce (Mary) Cooper of Marysville, John (Vicki) Cooper of Raymond and Mark (Lori) Cooper of Hilliard; two daughters, Melissa (Mike) Seely of Raymond and Marla (Bob) Hlavin of Hilliard; nine grandchildren, Ian Cooper, Wylie (Angie) Seely, Phaedra Cooper, Casey (Derek) Clay, Jason (Theresa) Cooper, Brittny Cooper, Sam (Bianca) Cooper, Taylor Wester and Madison Wester; eight great-grandchildren, Cruz, Cramer, Dane, Jordan, Blake, Kaelyn, Caden and Ethan; and many friends and neighbors.
Dick retired as a journeyman pipefitter with General Motors, where he had worked for 38 years. He was a graduate of Columbus North High School and was a member of the Raymond United Methodist Church.
He was a 50-year member and past master (1967) of Newton Lodge 249 F&AM and had served as its chaplain for the past 39 years.
An avid motorcyclist, Dick was proud of his affiliation with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter H in Columbus and Chapter B2 in Bellefontaine. He loved working crossword puzzles and treasured the love of his family and friends.
The Rev. Doug Flinn officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mannasmith Funeral Home, 621 W. 5th St., Marysville, where visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Masonic memorial service. Burial is in Raymond Cemetery.
