Jesse E. Johnson, 74, of Lakeview, passed away Feb. 9, 2014, at his residence.
Jesse was born in Newark on Oct. 19, 1939, to the late Raymond Johnson and Dorothy Dunn Bell. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara E. Johnson, in 2010; son, Charles Edward Johnson; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his children, Raymond P. (Peggy) Johnson of Lewistown, Richard E. (Betty Jean) Johnson of Russells Point, Elaine S. (Mark Sr.) Cook of Newark, Thomas L. (Kathy) Johnson of Lakeview and Deborah D. Hudson of Marysville; brother, Alva Ray (Billie) McCoy Jr. of Hanover; sisters, Beatrice D. Romine of Perryton and Pearl “Louie” (Skeet) Gilliland of Hanover; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jesse retired from Bellefontaine Motor Sales, where he was an auto mechanic. After retirement, he continued to work with his friend, Dave Bechtel. The two of them went out for fish dinners nearly every Friday.
He enjoyed trains, fishing, woodworking, especially working with match sticks, creating a stage coach and train and started a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars.
Jesse was the type of person who enjoyed helping others and he loved everyone he met.
Pastor Rusty Foley officiates a graveside service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hanover Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
