Donald M. Horn, 96, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, in Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Logan County on April 29, 1917, a son of the late Ralph and Kizzie Bewley Horn.
On Dec. 3, 1939, he married Thelma G. Guy in Bellefontaine and she preceded him in death April 9, 1999. He also was preceded in death by his son, Donald Horn Jr.; and a brother, Richard Horn.
He is survived by his daughter, Cherie Horn of Bellefontaine, two grandchildren, Tara (Ron) LeVan and Michael (Lori) Horn, all of Bellefontaine; three great-grandchildren, Cami LeVan and Hilary and Haley Horn; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ed and Sandy Muth and Keith and Trista Hardwick.
He grew up on a dairy farm as a child where he learned to care and love for animals from his father. He especially loved dogs, especially Sammy, Lady and Lizzie. He never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone and tell stories.
Donald served as sheriff of Logan County from 1961 until 1969, when he received a presidential appointment and became a U.S. marshal serving Southern Ohio.
He was a member of the Grand Lodge F&AM Bellefontaine, 50-year member of the Antioch Shriners, Bellefontaine Commandery No. 61, Knights Templar, Grand Council Royal Select and Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
Donald and Thelma loved the 18 winters they spent in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Pastor Jonathon Bull officiates a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
