Vincent J. “Jack” Simpson Sr., 84, of DeGraff, died at 7:37 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana.
He was born in Champaign County on Sept. 13, 1929, a son of the late James Arthur and Maud Young Simpson. He also was preceded in death by sisters, Delores, Vonda and Helen; and a brother, Norman.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, the former Ernestine Watkins, whom he married Feb. 26, 1972; daughters, Pam (Joe) Mandall of San Antonio, Texas, Vonda Simpson and her partner Tiffany of Bellefontaine, Jackie Burdiss of Sidney and Deanne McKnight of DeGraff; sons, Vincent “J.J.” (Christy) Simpson of DeGraff and Kent (Amy) Watkins of Sidney; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Simpson of Quincy.
Jack served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, retired from Quincy Casting and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Visitation is two hours prior to a funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Walter & Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main St., Urbana. Burial follows in Nettle Creek Cemetery.
