Patsy L. Maurer, 86, of Sidney, passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 1, 2014, at The Pavilion, Sidney.
She was born in Botkins on July 19, 1927, to the late Urban T. and Sylvia Zimpfer Kennedy.
She married Walter Philip Maurer Jr. on May 11, 1946, in Botkins, and he preceded her in death May 9, 2008. Patsy also was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Robert Kennedy; a son-in-law, John Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Jade Thomas and M.J. Thomas; and a grandson-in-law, Patrick Clerkin.
Patsy is survived by her children, Steven (Amy) Maurer of Bexley, Cheri (Joe) Davis of Montra, Martha Thomas of Jackson Center, Mary (Mark) Koenig of Montra, Ellen (Jerry) Sawmiller of Moulton and Ann (Bill) Allenbaugh of Sidney; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Clerkin, Annelise Maurer and Sylvia Maurer, Joe “JP” Davis, Jessi (Monty) Eyink, Katie (Brad) Zwiebel, Caleb (Christen) Thomas, Zeb Thomas, Nathan (Christie) Koenig, Josh Koenig, Madeline (Nick) Frankenhauser, Mike (Amy) Sawmiller, Thomas Allenbaugh and Elizabeth Allenbaugh; 10 great-grandchildren, Lana Wilkins and Raelyn “Frankie” Munyan, Evan and Jordan Eyink, Ian Zwiebel, Hailey Brewer, Dawson and Sawyer Thomas, and Nolan and Ethan Frankenhauser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patsy was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Montra and previously was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Botkins and the Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point.
She was a homemaker and was a bookkeeper for the family business.
Patsy was very active in her community, including the Botkins Historical Society. She was very talented musically and a gifted organist and pianist. Patsy also enjoyed writing poetry, especially for her children and grandchildren. She also was an artist, and enjoyed painting on various mediums.
A very compassionate person, she loved her family and took pleasure in spending summers at the lake.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Jackson Center. Pastor Shannon Vogelezang officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Botkins, with visitation one hour prior. Burial is at a later date in Loramie Valley Cemetery.
