Helen Peterson, 81, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was born in Rushsylvania on May 21, 1932, to the late Virgil and Cora L. Russell Thaxton.
On Oct. 23, 1949, she married Frank I. Peterson in Bellefontaine and he preceded her in death July 20, 1995. She is also preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Wendell and Harold Thaxton; and four sisters, Leona Summers, Lela White, Virginia Millice and Kathleen Dipple.
Surviving are her sons, Curtis (Doreen) Peterson, Larry Peterson and Tim (Brenda) Peterson, all of Bellefontaine, and Keith (Debbie) Peterson of Rushsylvania; a sister, Juanita Neer of Urbana; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Kevin, Matt, Jordan, Justine, Tanner and Tate Peterson, Kathy Roby, Susie Bevington and Breanna Boysel; two stepgrandchildren, Jeriamiah and Tashina Defenbaugh; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen worked for Johnsons Restaurant in Bellefontaine, Vicario’s Shoe Store, Siemens (formerly Bull Dog) on the big presses and welding, Thompson Electric, Huber-Buchenroth and Peterson Electric.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Logan County Friendly Senior Citizens. She previously was active with the King’s Daughters and was a volunteer for the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild. Helen was a “Baseball Mom and Grandma” for more than 55 years.
Visitation is from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where Gene Marine officiates a funeral at 4 p.m. Burial is in the Huntsville Cemetery at a later date.
