Evelyn Ruth Roberts, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Mary Rutan Hospital with her daughters at her side.
She was born July 30, 1922, in Cincinnati, a daughter of the late William and Ruth Doyle, and grew up in the Cincinnati area.
She married Russell Roberts from Kenton on March 6, 1943, and he died June 28, 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Carole (Earl) Carruthers of Maplewood, Madeline (Ron) Jordan of Belle Center and Maureen (Tony) Lavorgne of Bethel Park, Pa.; a sister, Margaret Kabel of Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers.
In 1961 she moved to the Alger-Ada area and resided there for about 20 years before she relocated to rural Kenton where she lived near her daughter.
She was very active, especially loving the outdoors. She and her husband raised sheep for a few years and she learned to spin and weave wool and made many beautiful woolen garments.
Her daughters continue to operate Ramshorn Wools which she started and which featured woolen animals, ornaments, etc. For a short time, she raised goats, chickens and rabbits. Her gardens were beautiful with many flowers and garden ponds. Her great-grandchildren loved to visit and see all the things there were to do on here farm.
In later years, she took up quilting and made quilts for her children and grandchildren. She occasionally said, “I don’t think I can live long enough to do all the things I want to do.”
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dola and was an active member of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Club.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home, Kenton, where Pastor Steven Ramsey officiates a funeral at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial follows in Sieg Cemetery, Hardin County.
