Phyllis L. McGowan, 72, of rural DeGraff, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, 2013, at her home.
She was born in Shelby County to Betty Regula Kemp, who survives in Jackson Center, and the late Dallas Kemp. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Snider.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Max McGowan, whom she married Sept. 17, 1960, in Jackson Center; daughter, Kelli (Jim) Bowen of DeGraff; and granddaughter, Christina Bowen.
A 1959 graduate of Jackson Center School, she studied at Franklin Business in Columbus. She was employed at the Ohio State Campus Extension Service in Columbus and also at LeRoy, Sidney, as an office employee.
A lifetime member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, she also was a past member of the Jackson Center Jr. American Club.
Phyllis was a devoted farm wife, mother and grandmother who excelled in baking and cooking. All of her extended family was fond of her potato salad. She also enjoyed flowers, cats, dogs and eating out with family and friends.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Jackson Center, and one hour prior to a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Jackson Center, officiated by Pastor Kent Hollis. Burial is in the Rea Cemetery, Bloom Center.
