John U. Newman, 93, of Huntsville, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Logan Acres.
He was born in Kenton on June 26, 1920, to the late Earl and Florence Uline Newman.
He was married on July 31, 1943, to Lois M. Hoffman and she preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Barkley; and brother-in-law, Glen Barkley.
Surviving are two sons, James E. (Linda) Newman of Columbus and Jerry (Debra) Newman of Huntsville; two brothers, Mack (Pat) Newman of Dunkirk and William (Kate) Newman of Kenton; three granddaughters, Shannon (John) Regan of Grove City, Mandy (Sean) Moore of Plain City and Chassie (John) Schwemer of Kenton; one grandson, Zakary (Kelsey) Newman of Wauseon; and eight great-grandchildren, John, Kelly and Molly Regan, Ty, Madden and Lila Moore, and Josie and Callie Schwemer.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for six years during World War II, at home and abroad.
He retired from Ohio Corp. (Swift Ohio) in Kenton after 34 years. He was a member of the IAM Local 1847.
A life member of the VFW Post 6817 in Mt. Victory and D.A.V., he was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge of Kenton, the National Rifle Association and Ft. McArther Long Rifles Muzzleloading Club.
John loved to hunt, fish and shoot. He was a good father, a good grandfather, a good brother and a good friend. He will be missed!
He attended Belle Center Church of Christ.
No services are planned. It was his wish to be cremated. Burial will be in Hale Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Logan County Cancer Society and Bellefontaine Cancer Society.
