Patrick “Pat” Kaufman, 57, formerly of the Englewood and West Milton areas, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in Soliette, Haiti, as the result of an accident.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cheryl Deeter Kaufman; sons, Cole (Holly) Kaufman of Ellensburg, Wash., and Nicholas (Mareena) Kaufman of Ludlow Falls; his mother, Betty (Butch) Maurer Hawkins of Bellefontaine; brothers, Michael (Brenda) Kaufman and David (Nan) Kaufman; sister, Joan (John) Berg; mother-in-law, Myrna (Tom) Booker; sister-in-law, Cindy (Sean) Tebics; grandson, Fenner Kaufman; and many other family members and special friends throughout the world.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. “Pete” Kaufman. A U.S. Army veteran, Pat was a licensed nurseryman and worked at the family business, Deeter Nurseries Inc. for more than 30 years. Following his years at Deeter Nurseries, Pat and his wife were called to be missionaries with Hearts of Compassion and were assigned to the mountain area of Soliette, Haiti, where they served until his death.
Brian Stull officiates a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Grace Brethren Church, 2261 S. Miami Street, West Milton, where visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Private interment is at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Compassion International Ministries, 6796 W. 1400 North, Silver Lake, IN 46982.
