Dorothy E. Whisman, 97, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at Logan Acres Care Center.
She was born in Warren County on Jan. 8, 1916, to the late Wilbur W. and Mary E. Sawyer Spies.
On Sept. 20, 1931, she married Wayne Bryant Whisman in Covington, Ky., and he preceded her in death Aug. 19, 1980. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley M. Whisman; a sister Mary Mayo; and three brothers, James, Willard and Russell Spies.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Florence) Whisman of Bellefontaine; two grandchildren, Keith Whisman of Kenton and Kathryn Whisman of Tucson, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Danielle Whisman and Cortnie Whisman, both of Kenton; a sister, Martha Decker of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy retired from I.T.E. in Bellefontaine in 1977, following 23 years of service. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine and the Bellefontaine Chapter 459 O.E.S. She had also volunteered with the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild for 35 years and enjoyed traveling with her friend Martha Conn.
Pastor Rob Fulton officiated a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where visitation is one hour prior. Burial is in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
