Marlene Ruth Varner, 77, of Bellefontaine, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at The Ohio State University Medical Center of complications from cancer.
She was born in Dayton on Jan. 17, 1936, to the late Wellington Hoyt and Ruth Celia Shawhan Mitchell.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Max Edward Varner, whom she married March 17, 1952, and a grandson, Dallas Cole Varner.
Marlene is survived by her children, Roxan Casey, Russel (Laurie) Varner, Rebecca (Duane) Roach, Robin (Jim) Schneider, and Randal (Jodi) Varner; grandchildren, Shannan, Douglas Jr., and Kyle Casey, Stephanie Casey Warner, Luke and Jeremy Varner, Chelsea Varner Heath, Travis and Trent Roach, Max, Karys, Reid and Myra Varner; stepgrandchildren Cory and Wyatt Covington, Brian and Scott Schneider and Delanie Buck; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters Carol (Jerry) Wisse and Bonnie (Dave) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
Marlene was a homemaker who also worked for a short time at Rink’s Department Store and LPZ Construction Co.
She took pleasure in her church family at the Rushsylvania Church of Christ of which she was a member for 65 years. She also enjoyed Bellefontaine High School and Ohio State sports. But above all else on this earth, Marlene loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Pastor Lynn Cleaveland officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rushsylvania Church of Christ where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service or from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial is in the Rushsylvania Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rushsylvania Church of Christ.
