Alice P. Hayes, 81, of Lakeview, left this life Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2013, at Green Hills Community, West Liberty.
Alice was born in Cleveland on July 22, 1932, to the late Phenici and Amy Leeds Dickerson.
On Oct. 21, 1950, she married Raymond Grumbling and he preceded her in death, along with a son, Ronald D. Grumbling.
She married Richard “Dick” Hayes on Nov. 11, 1980, and he survives, along with two daughters, Beth Tweed of Lancaster, Calif., and Ruth Skrletts of Marietta, Ga.; three sons, Raymond D. Grumbling Jr. of Powell, Richard D. Grumbling of Arizona and Robert D. (Brenda) Grumbling Sr. of Russells Point; 17 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Alice was a 1950 graduate of North Royalton High School. She owned and operated Grumbling’s Channel Light Inn for 15 years and retired from Logan Acres, where she worked in the office.
She was a member of Grace Chapel Christian Union in Santa Fe, where she and Dick celebrated their 25th anniversary with her daughters and sons standing on their behalf. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, cooking, and when she was younger, golfing.
Her greatest joy was being with her family and doing things for them.
Pastor Scott Anderson conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Chapel Christian Union Church. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. Burial is at 2 p.m. Friday in Dayton National Cemetery.
