James W. Smith, 82, formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the McAuley Center, Urbana.
He was born in Urbana on March 24, 1931, a son of the late Amasa and Louise Smith. He also was preceded in death by two sisters.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Borders; son, Michael Smith; brothers, William, Charles and Adam Smith; sister, Mary Dallas; grandchildren, Keith Smith, Cheyenne Smith, December Manns and Christopher Borders; five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith retired from Howard Paper Mill with 37 years of service.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Urbana Lodge 1215, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Bellefontaine 2166, AMVETS Post 25, and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A gathering of family and friends is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Jennings Farley Funeral Home, West Liberty.
