Evelyn Charlotte Beresford Thorne, 95, of Lima, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at home. She was born in Chelsea, London, England, on Oct. 19, 1917, to the late Charles George Delapour Beresford and Ethel Annie Rayner Beresford.
On Feb. 28, 1948, she married John W. Thorne in Furth, Germany, during the Nuremburg War Trials. She was secretary to one of the prosecuting attorneys and John was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, working as an electrical engineer for the trials.
Evelyn retired Feb. 28, 1982, after 25 years as secretary to the comptroller at Superior Coach.
Evelyn is survived by five children, John W. Thorne of St. Petersburg, Fla., Linda (Ken) Music of Lima, Gerald (Jan) Thorne of Oxford, N.C., Cheryl (Garry) Goetz of Lakeview, Larry (Elida) Dugger and Michael (Gwen) Thorne of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Kenny and Julie Music, Laura, Johnny, Jennie and Jackie Thorne, Michael and Mindy Goetz, and Melissa and Jesse Thorne; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters; one brother; and two granddaughters, Susan and Michelle Music.
A private family service is at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel.
