Samuel W. Sowers, 72, of Cable, passed away surrounded by his family Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
He was born Dec.15, 1940, in Cable, the son of the late Wilbur and Mary Yoder Sowers. He graduated from Triad High School in 1958, and married Martha Jane Dooley, his high school sweetheart on Aug. 2, 1958, and she survives.
He worked as the service manager for Dave Kehl Chevrolet for 25 years before retiring. He loved spending time with his family, mowing his yard and doing woodworking. He also enjoyed automobiles and music.
Also surviving are his sons, Kevin of Durham, N.C., and Kent of Cable; his daughter, Karla (Kevin) Leiter of Cable; his grandchildren, Megan and Mallory Leiter and Bradley Sowers; brother William H. (Kathleen) Sowers; his brothers-in-law Joe (Melinda) Dooley of Conover and Jerry (Cindy) Dooley of Huntsville; a special cousin Lois (Phil) Johnson; and 11 nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Sowers.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Vernon Funeral Home in Urbana, where a funeral begins at 10 a.m. Monday.
Burial will follow at Jenkins Chapel in Cable, Ohio.
