Paul Eugene “Gene” Wolford, 83, of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, in Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to the late Ocie Paul and Norma Marie Sirbaugh Wolford. He also was preceded in death by son, Martin and brother, Wayne A. Wolford.
He never met a stranger, was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast, a loyal Buckeye fan, and treasured returning to his beloved West Virginia.
He married Marcella Miller on Nov. 27, 1949, at her parents’ home in Bellefontaine, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2012. He was a well-known realtor and a private pilot. He was the first president of the Mended Hearts Chapter of Logan County. He was employed in supervision by Westinghouse in Bellefontaine and Upper Sandusky and Union City, Ind., from 1952 to1980. He retired from Belletech in 1993. After retirement, he continued real estate and worked at Littleton & Rue Mortuary. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church serving as a deacon, elder, and head of trustees.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; his children, Michael Eugene, Michelle Anne (David Yeater), Mark Allen (Paula) Wolford, the late Martin Lee and Sharon Kay (Tim Pond); his grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Matt, Jennifer, Ryan (Elizabeth), Kari (Arron), Jessica (Mathew), Maegen, Amanda, Anneliese; his great-grandchildren, Brandon, Riley, Kyra, Owen, Savannah, Adalyn, Vivien, Noah and William.
A celebration of life begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, officiated by Gene Marine at Jennings Farley Funeral Home, 5591 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty, where calling is two hours prior. Private burial is later at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
