Thomas “Tom” McKoy, of Crestview, Fla., died April 5, 2013.
He was born June 14, 1937, in Rowland, N.C.
A 1955 graduate of Southside High School in Rowland, he attended the A&T College in Greensboro, N.C., where he enrolled in the ROTC. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on May 15, 1957, and served in Vietnam, Greece, England and in various states.
He retired in 1985 as a senior master sergeant. He was very proud of his accomplishments and after retirement, received a bachelor’s degree from Troy State College in Niceville, Fla., in 1989.
Survivors include four children, including Eric Deslandes-McKoy of Urbana; his son’s mother, Ruth Strickland of Bellefontaine; four grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; 10 aunts; four uncles; a sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister and older brother.
A memorial service was conducted April 12 at the Church of Christ in Crestview, Fla., with Brother Henry Herbert, minister, officiating. Internment was in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla.
