Chester Harding ‘Foxy Coxy’ Cox


Chester Harding “Foxy Coxy” Cox, 92, of Springfield, died Friday morning, Nov. 9, 2012, in his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Logan County on Aug. 6, 1920, a son of the late John and Lena Leisure Cox. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Murphy and Mabel Hustead; and five brothers, Kenneth, Edward, Rex, Vernon and John Cox.

He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

In 1980, he retired from Navistar following 34 years of service.

Coxy enjoyed fishing, rock, gem and antique shows, flea markets and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his five children, Teresa Pelfrey of Springfield, Paula (Mike) Mounts of Springfield, Jeff (Kellie) Pelfrey of Mechanicsburg, Kim Cox of Champaign County and John Cox of Springfield; his former spouse and caregiver, Judy Saddler; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dave Aims and Larry and Steve at Max’s Pawn Shop.

The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the nurses and staff of Cornerstone Hospice.

Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, Springfield, where Pastor Jeremy Stout officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial with military honors is in Rose Hill Burial Park.
