Dorothy M. Rea

Dorothy M. Rea, 86, of Bellefontaine, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in Logan Acres, following an extended illness.

She was born in Kenton on June 9, 1926, to the late Alpha and Cecil Heavner Emmons. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Rea; a son, Daniel Rea; a grandson, William Foreman; two sisters, Mary Creamer and Betty Truesdale; and four brothers, James, William, Harold and Clarence Emmons.

Survivors include her children, Don (Ann) Rea, Marilyn Rea and Melanie (Aaron) Wright, each of Bellefontaine, Mae Allen of Huntsville, Merri (John) Dobozy of North Carolina, David Rea of Anna and Joe (Judy) Rea of West Mansfield; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Dixie Slaybach of Bellefontaine; two brothers, Robert (Clara) Emmons of Indiana and Ernie (Marie) Emmons of Piqua; and several nieces and nephews.

A loving homemaker, she was a dedicated and proud mother. She formerly attended North Greenfield United Methodist Church and was attending the Bellefontaine Church of the Brethren.

She enjoyed crocheting and canning and especially loved cooking, collecting cookbooks, and watching cooking shows. She was a tremendous cook and baker who made many unforgettable dishes.

She was loved and admired by her children and will be remembered as one of the sweetest, most kind ladies who always gave of herself to others.

The Rev. Fred Clogg officiates a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery, West Mansfield. No calling hours will be observed.
