Thomas G. “Tom” Stanley, 75, of West Mansfield, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born in Bellefontaine on July 20, 1937, to the late Granville Stanley and Doris Inskeep Stanley.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Floris “Flo” Meddles Stanley, to whom he was married Aug. 13, 1960, by the Rev. George Hunt at the East Liberty Church of Christ; his daughters, Tami (Tony) Dowell of Zanesfield and Darlene Stanley of Columbus; a grandson, Adam (Karen) Dowell of Bellefontaine; great-grandson, Ethan; his sister, Barbara (Chris) Proicou of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Dixie (Jerry) Alexander of Melbourne, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he retired from Navistar following 30 years of employment.
Tom was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor who loved Dachshund dogs, but found very little enjoyment in cats.
He and his wife traveled many happy miles together in their RV, and he loved to often satisfy his sweet tooth with chocolate candies.
He was an avid hunter in his younger years and was always a sports car enthusiast.
More than anything, he was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud grandpa and great-grandpa.
Dr. Jason Robson officiates a celebration of life service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where visitation begins at 4 p.m. A reception with refreshments follows the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dachshund Rescue of North America Fund and the American Cancer Society.
