Judge scraps Cleveland's protest rules for GOP convention

CLEVELAND (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday ruled that Cleveland's regulations governing protests and marches during next month's Republican National Convention infringe on the right of free expression and he ordered the city and a civil rights organization to begin negotiating new rules.

Man trying to avoid train dies after fall from Ohio bridge

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a man has died after falling from a railroad bridge while trying to avoid a passing train in central Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/28RIWW1) reports that Columbus police and fire crews were called around 1:30 p.m. Thursday to an overpass where they found the man on the road under the bridge.

A police spokeswoman says the man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't immediately released.

Witnesses told police that the man was on the bridge, trying to squeeze by a passing train when he fell.

Authorities say the train did not hit the man, but Norfolk Southern Railroad also is investigating.


Man pleads guilty to 2 child rape counts in Troy

TROY, Ohio (AP) — A man accused of sexually assaulting three youths 13 years old or younger has pleaded guilty to two rape counts in an agreement with prosecutors in western Ohio.
