NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (AP) — Local officials say nearly 1,000 gallons of gas and oil spilled from a holding tank at an oil well in northeast Ohio.
The Vindicator in Youngstown (http://bit.ly/1wusUYg ) reports that local and state authorities responded to the spill at a well in Bristol Township on Monday night.
A Trumbull County sheriff's deputy says a county hazardous materials crew stopped the spill from getting into a creek. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Natural Resources also were on the scene.
Deputy Harold Wix says a machine was used Tuesday to suck up oil and gas from the top of the soil. He says crews probably will have to dig up the soil to finish the cleanup.
Wix says a malfunction of the well's holding tank caused the spill.
