GREENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A western Ohio father whose 16-month-old daughter died after he gave her an adult sleep aid has been sentenced to three years in prison after a judge convicted him of involuntary manslaughter.
Twenty-nine-year-old Scott Webber was sentenced in Greenville on Thursday. He had declined to take a plea deal and could have faced up to 14 years in prison.
His daughter, Ina Jane, was found dead in her crib in February 2013, tangled in a scarf used as a blanket. The autopsy showed she died of asphyxiation and had been given ZzzQuil, which is not intended for children under 12 years old.
The child's mother, 29-year-old Lauren Jones, pleaded guilty to child endangering as part of a plea deal that required her to testify against her husband.
