CINCINNATI (AP) — Police say a 6-year-old girl in southwest Ohio suffered critical injuries when she was mauled by two pit bull dogs.
Officers in the Cincinnati suburb of Westwood arrived in the neighborhood Wednesday evening to find the dogs mauling the child on the sidewalk. The dogs turned on the arriving officers, who shot and killed them.
The officers took the girl to a hospital where she immediately underwent surgery for massive facial injuries. She was in critical condition early Thursday.
It wasn't clear who was watching the girl at the time of the attack, or if the owner of the dogs will be charged. Because of the severity of her injuries, homicide investigators were assigned to the case.
The girl's name wasn't released.
