Man convicted in slaying of Dayton choir director

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio jury has convicted a man of the fatal shooting of a church choir director.

The jury in Dayton on Thursday night found 32-year-old Shawn Wood guilty of murder and other charges in the December 2011 slaying of 39-year-old Corey Turner.

The Dayton Daily News ( ) reports the jury deliberated about seven hours after hearing prosecutors tie Wood to the crime though circumstantial evidence, Wood's DNA in Turner's car and Wood's incriminating statements.

Turner, the choir director at Greater Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church for 12 years, had been in final rehearsals for a Christmas concert when he was found shot in the head in his apartment. Authorities couldn't locate Wood for a year after Turner's slaying.

Wood will be sentenced Feb. 25.
