COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A 10-year-old central Ohio boy remains in critical condition after being shot in the head by his 11-year-old brother.
The boys' father tells The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1nc25o3 ) that the children found the gun behind their house in Columbus while they were shoveling snow on Sunday.
Later, when the boys were alone, the gun went off in the 11-year-old's hand just after 1 a.m. Monday. His brother, Ivion'tae Stevens, was shot in the head.
Columbus police detective Randy VanVorhis said the boy's single father left them alone while he went out for groceries. The shooting appears to be accidental, but the case will be reviewed by a grand jury.
A Columbus police dispatcher's report said that a 9 mm handgun was found hidden inside the house.
