AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio school board has voted to fire a teacher who they say made some Facebook posts that were racist and derogatory.
The board in Akron voted Monday night to fire music teacher David Spondike. The board put the Firelands High School teacher on paid leave while it proceeds with terminating his contract.
The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/1d6mUug ) reports that the process could take months if the 15-year veteran teacher decides to fight the decision.
Administrators say he posted racial slurs and derogatory comments on his Facebook page after witnessing teenagers urinating near his front yard.
The teacher initially refuted the allegations in a series of online videos. He later acknowledged posting the comments, saying he was within his rights to speak his mind.
