14 at flea market face counterfeiting charges

BROOKVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Fourteen people have been arrested following a monthlong investigation into sales of counterfeit items at a southeastern Indiana flea market.

Cpl. Travis Thickstun of the Indiana State Excise Police tells The Indianapolis Star ( ) that police seized thousands of counterfeit items at White's Sale Barn in Brookville.

The flea market near the tourist community of Metamora attracts visitors from Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Ky., and other areas.

Thickstun says police acting on a tip discovered more than a dozen booths were selling counterfeit items including DVDs, clothing, handbags and professional sports jerseys. The booth operators told customers the items were authentic.

Thickstun says some of the DVDs included movies not yet released on DVD in the legal retail market.

Those arrested face preliminary charges of counterfeiting. Additional charges are possible.
