CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A 5-year-old Ohio boy who won the money in a magazine contest has donated $1,000 to children's shelters.
Warner Parker of Jackson Township near Canton donated the money to the Canton YWCA to benefit children living in the agency's two family shelters.
His mother, Jennifer, says her son won the money through a contest sponsored by Family Fun Magazine. His winning idea was recycling discarded crayons and donating them to needy children.
Agency executive coordinator Dee Krauter tells The (Canton) Repository (bit.ly/1dXfJEa) the donation and the boy's help are awesome and amazing.
About two dozen children currently live in the agency's two shelters in Canton.
His mother says Warner, hearing some children don't have crayons, had suggested doing something about it.
