OAKWOOD, Ohio (AP) — Descendants of the Wright brothers are licensing their forebears' famous name and likeness for consumer goods to help support the Ohio mansion where Orville Wright lived for decades.
The Dayton Daily News reports the Wright brothers brand possibilities could include associations with aviation or bomber jackets, aviation chronographs or watches, high-end clothing, sunglasses and more.
A great grandniece of Orville and Wilbur Wright tells the newspaper that maintaining the house is the motivation for the new licensing strategy. Amanda Wright Lane says she hopes it will generate the funds needed to support the 6,000-square-foot mansion, which is part of Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park.
Hawthorn Hill, located in the Dayton suburb of Oakwood, was designed by Wilbur and Orville Wright and was the family's home until 1948.
