The birth March 17, 2013, of Joel Phillips brought to five the number of generations in the family of Robert Stratton of Zanesfield, seated right. Ben Logan students complete coupon project

Food Science students at Benjamin Logan High School recently completed a two-month extreme couponing project to secure the most items and savings.
Students were given a spending cap of $15 and used newspaper ads, on-line coupons, and price matching retailers.
Collectively, the class of 10 students purchased 220 items for $84.99. Alic Bickham led the class with the total savings of $36.12 and Gwen Reaver lead the class with the most items, 75. The total saving was $72.77.
All items will be donated to St. Vincent De Paul.
Students included Jessica Skidmore, Dillon Park, Jasmine Wical, Preston Miller, Holly Parker, Taylor McNamara, Michael Green, Simon Engle, Gwen Reaver and Alic Bickham.

WL-S FFA wins Miami Trace Poultry Invitational

Members of the West Liberty-Salem FFA poultry team won the recent Miami Trace Poultry Invitational in Washington Court House, posting a total score of 1,734 points.

A total of 21 teams participated in the contest.

Individually, the team placed four members in the top seven participants. Sarah Williams received second place with 592 points; Catherine Williams was third with 575 points; Bethany Maytas, fifth place, 566 points; and Keri White, seventh place, 551 points.

Other students placings were Jordon Wolfe 13th, Abbie Loffing 16th, Jonathan Wolfe 18th, Charlie Williams 75th.

The team travels to Celina for the final invitational and also prepares for the Ohio FFA Poultry Finals April 6 at the Ohio Expo Center.

Triad presents 'Get Smart'

Triad High School Drama Department presents Get Smart at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the high school.

The play follows the adventures and blunderings of one Maxwell Smart, AKA Agent 86, played by Boston Gregg, as he tries to thwart the evil-doings of the criminal organization known simply as KAOS. Led by Mr. Big, played by Jed Coyle, KAOS plans to destroy many of the nation's capitals and monuments with its newly acquired device of destruction, The Inthermo.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 students. Children 3 and under are free.

Members of the First Church of God congregation form a living cross during a Tuesday dress rehearsal for the weekend performance of their cantata I Know My Redeemer Lives by Richard Kingsmore. Public performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and also during the Sunday service. The cross, which holds about 36 people, was built several years ago by church member Earl LeVan. A vehicle emerges from a cloud of steam on Rush Avenue as crews from Insituform Technologies LLC line sewer mains in the area on Wednesday. A boiler in the truck is used to heat up polyurethane material which is applied to the walls of existing sewer lines. The crews have been working off and on in Bellefontaine for several months. Scout week birth recognized

Lillyan Grace Groeschel, daughter of Tara Rollins and Matt Groeschel of Huntsville, was the first baby girl to be born at Mary Rutan Hospital during Girl Scout week.

She entered the world at 7:39 p.m. March 14 at Mary Rutan Hospital, where Girl Scouts of Logan County presented the family with a basket full of baby items, collected by area troops.

Presenters included, from left, scout Alicia Jenkins, Ms. Rollins and her new daughter Lillyan Grace, and scouts Brianna Jameson and Mikala Poll.

Ben Logan presents ‘My Favorite Year’

Benjamin Logan High School students used a dress rehearsal Tuesday to put the finishing touches on their presentation of the musical, My Favorite Year, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the high school auditorium. More than 40 cast members perform under the direction of Mike Kildow and Kim Smith.
