Representatives of the J.R. Memorial Cruise For A Cure presented a $2,500 check to Village of Russells Point officials at a recent council meeting to benefit both the Russells Point Police Department and Indian Lake Safety Town.
A total of $1,500 is designated for the upcoming 2018 Indian Lake Safety Town, slated for June 11 through 15, while the remaining $1,000 will help with uniform expenses for the police department.
The fifth annual J.R. Memorial Cruise For A Cure took place June 24 at Mimi’s on the Lake, 138 E. Main St., Russells Point, and honored the late Jerry Richardson, an Indian Lake resident who passed away following complications with a malignant brain tumor.
Group spokeswoman Tracy Kerns said this year’s fundraiser generated a total of $180,000 for the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer and the Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research at the James Cancer Hospital at the Ohio State University.
“The mayor’s office and the police department have helped us so much and allowed us to have a safe and successful event,” she said. “Cancer research is our focus, but we know we cannot do this alone and we are so grateful to the businesses and citizens of Russells Point and Indian lake for their contributions of items and gift cards for our auctions.”
Next year’s Indian Lake Cruise for a Cure is slated for June 23.
