Branching out into nature

Camp Willson workshop

Professional sculptor Thomas Brown from Brooklyn, N.Y., left, creates a natural-themed piece from willow branches Tuesday at Camp Willson, 2732 County Road 11, with the help of LoCo Art summer intern Gabe Skylan and campers Maddie White and Rebecca Brewster, both 10 and of Gahanna, and Ava Liles, 10, of Belle Center, as part of a LoCo Art’s workshop “Sculpture in Nature” this week. Brown said the natural piece likely will evolve into a giant bird’s nest or possibly a lotus flower as he and the campers continue their creative endeavors this week to add to the sculpture. In New York City, Brown creates intricate ice sculptures through his work with Okamoto Studio, including special pieces that have been featured annually at Central Park, including a recent ice sculpture of Alice and Wonderland, he said.
