The legacy of the Roundhead Post 8832 will live on for years to come at Indian Lake High School through a $20,000 scholarship donation.
Members Mike Craft and Howard Sherpherd said the Roundhead VFW is closing later this year, but wanted to continue to fund its two annual $500 scholarships for graduating Indian Lake students who shine academically.
They presented Indian Lake Superintendent Pat O’Donnell with the $20,000 donation. Indian Lake Board of Education members also accepted the donation during a recent regular board meeting.
The money will be placed in a special account and be utilized for the scholarships for many years down the road, school officials said.
“We are very thankful that the members of the Roundhead VFW saw fit to continue providing scholarships for our students, even beyond the existence of their organization. What a way to pay it forward,” the superintendent said.
